Solar energy perfect for state
Re: the June 2 article "Tax credits for solar up in the air."
Arizona is a natural for solar energy. However, Sen. Jon Kyl voted against extending the solar tax credits. Our other senator, John McCain, as is usual this year, did not vote.
What were they thinking? Or were they thinking?

Cyclists need to be predictable
Re: the Aug. 10 article "Bicyclists beware."
This article reported an analysis of accident locations. Another article reporting accident causes would be instructive. One cyclist pictured is riding against traffic. Another cyclist was hit while riding on the sidewalk.
Cyclists should ride with traffic and on the road, where drivers, including other cyclists, are expecting them to be. If they do, they will be cycling safely and lawfully, no matter what location.

Star should rethink use of 'illegals'
Re: the Aug. 10 article "U.S. is out $51M for flying 64,000 illegals to Mexico."
I find it interesting that of all the things that the word "illegals" in the Star's headline can reference, it is applied to a group of human beings seeking a better life and whose only crime is not having proper documentation. Why is this term not applied to all Americans, who have surely broken the law at least once?
If you have ever gone 1 mile per hour over the speed limit, then you are illegally driving and not a law-abiding citizen and therefore a criminal. Perhaps the term "illegals" should be applied to those who have ever driven illegally over the speed limit. Why is it only the undocumented migrants that get to be known perpetually by the dehumanizing term "illegals"?

Special thanks
Recently I was at the Pizza Hut on Speedway and Swan when the waitress asked me if I had seen the two young men who had been standing at the counter. I said no, that I had been reading my paper. She smiled and said, "Well, they paid for your lunch."
I don't know who they were, but, I would like to tell them thanks and that they brightened my day.
We hear so much about the bad things that happen each day, but the vast majority of people are really good.

Look twice, you may save a life
Re: the Aug. 12 article "22-year-old motorcyclist dies after Midtown crash."
"Look twice, save a life" should be emblazoned on every car and truck's bumper in Arizona.
Our gas crisis is bringing more and more smaller cars, motorcycles, bikes, and scooters out onto the streets. Arizona roads are becoming more dangerous. Cell phones, text messaging, grooming, iPods, eating and drinking keep us from truly paying attention to the roads.
There will always be a greater risk to those on two wheels. Always pay attention and look twice. You may save the life of someone close to you.
