Tucson restaurant Anthony's In The Catalinas has received the Wine Spectator's Grand Award for 2008.
The magazine's highest nod, the Grand Award "honors outstanding restaurants with extraordinary wine programs," according to the Aug. 31 issue now on newsstands.
Anthony's was one of only 73 restaurants selected worldwide, and the only one in Arizona.
"This is the Oscar," said Anthony Martino, whose restaurant has received the Grand Award every year since 1993.
The award factors in a wide range of criteria, including the wine list's harmony to the menu and its superior presentation and wine service.
Anthony's has nearly 2,000 wine selections, which include more than 400 half-bottles, Martino said.
The magazine cites California wines and Bordeaux as Anthony's particular strengths.
Anthony's, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in January, received Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence in its first few years of operation.
This year that honor went to: 58 Degrees and Holding Co. at 5340 E. Broadway; Janos, McMahon's Prime Steakhouse, The Grill at Hacienda Del Sol and The Ventana Room.
The following received an Award of Excellence: 58 Degrees and Holding Co. at St. Philip's Plaza, 4280 N. Campbell Ave.; Acacia at St. Philip's; Feast; Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar; The Arizona Inn's Main Dining Room; McClintock's; Michelangelo Ristorante; Pastiche Modern Eatery; Red Sky Cafe; Sullivan's Steakhouse; The Gold Room at Westward Look Resort; The Melting Pot; Vin Tabla; and Wildflower.
