Students from Smith Elementary School at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base took part in a Red Ribbon march to demonstrate their commitment and power to say no to drugs.
This year's National Red Ribbon Campaign for a Drug Free America included distribution of red ribbons basewide, anti-drug assemblies at base schools, visits by the crime-fighting dog, McGruff, and participation in a national poster contest.
The one-mile march with 230 students began at 1 p.m., Thursday and was followed by the final assembly with Col. Michael Spencer, 355th Wing commander, announcing the winners of the poster contest.
The overall winner was Loretta LaBenne, grade four. Other winners were kindergartners Amya Hudson and Lilly Spano; second-graders Katelyn McButchart and Kristine David; third-graders Alexa Capozzolo and Kiana Ramos; and fifth-graders Logan Gregory and Amber Berry.
