East Side

Students' artwork to aid PRO Neighborhoods

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 09.20.2004
Artwork created by five Sahuaro High School students is featured on greeting cards that are being sold to raise money for PRO Neighborhoods, an organization that supports neighborhood groups in Tucson and Pima County.
The cards show scenes of healthy neighborhoods, as envisioned by the students at the East Side high school.
Street scenes, playgrounds and homes are some of the images displayed on the colorful cards, which are blank inside.
Kelly Flegal, Ralph Gastelum, Jennifer Haggerty, Karen Hill and Renata Nardi created the artwork for a poster contest held during this year's Fiesta de los Barrios - a celebration sponsored by PRO Neighborhoods in May.
The students' work was guided by Lynn Gregson, an art teacher at Sahuaro.
A set of 10 cards showing the five students' designs can be purchased for $10.
Money raised will be used for PRO Neighborhoods projects.
The organization - People, Resources and Organizations in Support of Neighborhoods - provides guidance and small grants to neighborhood groups, offers workshops and maintains a resource library.
To purchase a set of greeting cards, visit the organization's office at 320 N. Commerce Park Loop or call 882-5885.
People can see images of the cards by visiting this Web site: www.proneighborhoods.org.
