Amphi's Bernal named state's top ag teacher
An Amphitheater High School teacher was named the state's Agriculture Teacher of the Year by the Arizona Agriculture Teachers Association.
Jose Bernal teaches plant and animal science at the high school, 125 W. Yavapai Road.
He is now in the running for the national teacher of the year award.
Bernal, who started his 28th year at Amphi, works at the school's Land Lab and teaches students to breed, vaccinate, raise and show livestock.
Amphi group hopes chiles will heat up fundraising
A program affiliated with the Amphitheater Public Schools district will sell green chiles at an event to raise money for student scholarships.
Community Extension Programs, which offers before- and after-school programs at 10 Amphi elementary schools and early-learning centers at three Amphi elementary schools, will sell roasted or unroasted green chiles from Hatch, N.M., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at their office, 450 E. Wetmore Road.
Other vendors will be selling crafts and other items.
Prices will be $30 for a 40-pound sack of green chiles or $5 for a small basket.
Chile ristras and chile dinners also will be sold.
Ristas will start at $10 and dinners will be sold for $5.
