Teen volunteers aided social agency
The TMM Family Services Campus, 3127 E. Adams St., hosted 18 American Jewish Society of Service youths, ages 15-17, who spent six weeks in the Tucson area doing volunteer work.
The students were primarily from the East Coast and Canada. "They helped work on many projects that included working with the Marana food bank and helping with minor home repair for the elderly," said Don Strauch, executive director of TMM Family Services.
Students helped with projects at Laguna Elementary School and at Primavera's Five Points Shelter.
They helped veterans with work ranging from rebuilding a laundry room to remodeling a duplex, outreach to homeless vets, home visits with veterans, constructing storage sheds and completing a chicken coop.
Some helped build an outdoor shower in Catalina for a family with two boys with cerebral palsy.

Flag ceremony will mark city's birthday
The five flags that have flown over Tucson — American, Spanish, Mexican, Confederate and state of Arizona — will be presented in a ceremony Thursday to celebrate Tucson's 234th birthday.
The ceremony is set for 8 a.m. at the Presidio San Agustin courtyard, at the southwest corner of North Church Avenue and West Washington Street.
The Tohono O'odham Nation and Pasqua Yaqui Tribe flags also will also be presented, as will a replica of the 28-star American flag that was brought by the Mormon Battalion and flown over Tucson on Dec. 16, 1846.
Those attending the ceremony are encouraged to dress in period costume.
Parking is available at the Main Library parking garage (enter from East Alameda Street), El Presidio parking garage (enter from East Pennington Street) and the Pennington Street parking garage, 110 E. Pennington St.
