Boots, buckles and beer were out in full force Saturday for 99.5 KIIM-FM radio's Freedom Fest as crowds poured into Rillito Park for the holiday music festival.
Music fans were entertained with performances by Tracy Lawrence, Pat Green, Gloriana, the Gary Bonnett Band and Cindy Standage. And for those who wanted more than music, vendors had booths with patriotic paraphernalia for sale, food and a U.S. Army climbing tower. There was even a hot-dog-eating contest.
Julie Miller and 5-year-old son Alec took their wares — stuffed animals, red roses and red, white and blue leis.
Sales were a little slow at first, but Miller expected it to pick up.
"After the sun sets, I have the light-up roses. They sell better," Miller said.
Donning a T-shirt with "redneck" emblazoned across the back, Jason Chavis prepared to fill three six-shooter-style water pistols with water following a brief water fight with the folks at Taylor Tack and Feed, where the water pistols were being sold.
When asked if he was planning to ambush the friends he came with after he refilled, Chavis answered, "Of course, and I have all their weapons."
