It was a soggy start to the first Seiko Tucson Match Play Championships on Jan. 5, 1984. PGA Tour golfer Tom Watson chatted with LPGA player Jan Stephenson while they were waiting to tee off in the pro-am event. They were scheduled to start in the last two groupings of the day, but play was suspended before they could begin. Watson went on to win the Tour players portion of the match-play tournament, defeating Dr. Gil Morgan in the finals at Randolph North Golf Course.
