Norm Lindstrom headed to San Carlos Bay in Sonora, Mexico, for the New Year's holiday weekend and planned to go deep-sea fishing for the first time. He certainly didn't plan on reeling in this 85-pound giant black sea bass. He caught the fish a couple of miles offshore near a reef. Lindstrom was understandably proud of his trophy and displayed it for a reporter on Jan. 2, 1974. Just like the bass, he was hooked, and he hoped to enter the annual San Carlos fishing tournament in a few months.
