A man was critically injured Tuesday when he fell 65 feet from a cell phone tower he was working on southeast of Tucson, an official said Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the 16000 block of South Houghton Road, near Sahuarita Road, in Corona de Tucson at about 12:30 p.m.
The man was working with a partner when he fell to the ground, said Todd Cupell, a spokesman for the Corona de Tucson Fire District.
He was wearing a harness with primary and secondary tethers, but both failed, Cupell said. It was not clear whether it was an equipment failure or an operator error.
The man's partner called 911, and the injured man was flown to University Medical Center.
His condition was not available Wednesday. Information on what company he works for also was not available.
