A 15-year-old high school student was stabbed Wednesday afternoon on the South Side, and police are seeking information on his attackers.
The incident happened around 4 p.m. when the teen was walking near South Sixth Avenue and East Oregon Street — north of West Drexel Road, according to Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
A tan or gold four-door Honda Accord or Civic with two girls and two boys in their late teens stopped and began exchanging words with the boy, Robinson said.
The two boys in the car got out, and the argument soon turned physical, Robinson said. One of the two boys pulled a knife and stabbed the victim.
While investigators are still working to determine what prompted the incident, one of the two boys reportedly made a gang statement and may have gang ties, Robinson said. There is no indication that the victim has any gang ties, he added.
The victim managed to make it home, and his father drove him to a fire station in the 5700 block of South Liberty Avenue, near Drexel, Robinson said.
Firefighters than took him to a hospital, where he was reported in serious but stable condition, Robinson said. The injuries are considered non- life-threatening.
No arrests have been made, but police are looking to speak with witnesses who have yet to come forward in order to get a better description of the vehicle and the attackers, Robinson said.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.
