Metro Water seeks rate increase

Metro Water has scheduled a public hearing for Oct. 20 to give its customers a chance to have their say about proposed rate increases.
The company is asking for a 4 percent rate increase that Metro Water's board of directors will vote on at the 6 p.m. meeting, which will be held in its district headquarters, 6265 N. La Cañada Drive.
The increase would generate slightly more than $500,000 in the next year, said Michael Land, the utility's chief financial officer.
Revenue would pay for debt obligation on a $28 million capital-improvement program that customers approved in March 2005. The program included construction of a five million-gallon reservoir, which has been completed.
The utility serves about 18,000 customers on the Northwest Side and in the Foothills. An approved rate increase would mean higher water bills in December, Land said.
The average Metro Water customer uses about 10,000 gallons per month, he added.
