A summer-camp counselor was arrested after authorities say he exchanged sexually explicit text messages with a 16-year-old girl involved in the program.
Kevyn Ashley, 22, is now facing a charge of commercial sex exploitation of a minor and is being held on $7,500 bond, according to the Pima County jail, where he was booked Wednesday.
According to a search warrant affidavit filed in Pima County Superior Court Friday, the girl, who is cognitively delayed and mildly autistic, began going to the summer program at Arts for All on May 23.
During that time she began sending hundreds of text messages to and receiving them from Ashley who is described as being cognitively delayed, the affidavit said.
On Aug. 11, the girl's mother saw a photo of a man's penis on the girl's cell phone, along with explicit text messages, according to the affidavit. On Aug. 27, the girl was interviewed and confirmed that the messages were from Ashley.
Ashley told authorities that he accidentally sent a photo of his penis to the girl and that she sent nude photos of herself to him that he thought were "wrong," the affidavit said.
The executive director of Arts for All told authorities that Ashley was employed there until the allegations surfaced, the affidavit said.
