A 27-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries when she deliberately ran into traffic and was hit by a vehicle just after being released from jail, an official said.
Leigha Villescas had just been released Thursday afternoon on her own recognizance after being arrested Wednesday night in connection with a domestic-violence-related dispute.
Before Villescas left the jail, she handed a note to personnel at the jail's front desk and asked if they could give the note to her family, according to Deputy Dawn Hanke, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.
Villescas then ran out into traffic, where she was struck by a westbound car on West Silverlake Road, near South Mission Road, Hanke said.
The Tucson Police Department is investigating. No further details were available.
