A 20-year-old man was found shot to death in a North Side alley Tuesday afternoon, Tucson police said.
Wayne Anthony Johnson was found lying on the ground in the back of an apartment complex near North Mountain Avenue and East Glenn Street, suffering from gunshot trauma.
Police received a call at 12:07 p.m. that shots had been heard in the 2800 block of North Mountain Avenue, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson police spokesman. However, the first officers to arrive could not locate a victim.
At about 12:20 p.m., police received a second call, about a man down with gunshot wounds in an alley at the same location.
Someone was trying to render aid to Johnson, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Pacheco said.
Johnson and his killer had an argument in the parking lot of the apartment complex, and the argument escalated into a shooting, police said.
The victim and two other people, including the shooter, may have been in a car together when the shots were fired, police said.
The car, an older-model foreign sports car, was seen heading north on Mountain Avenue. Homicide detectives believe the motive was drug-related. They are seeking a shooter described as 20 to 25 years old, with a stocky build.
