Tucson Fire Department's Central Fire Station, at 142 S. Sixth Ave., had been answering the call since 1909. By Aug. 9, 1973, however, its services were no longer needed. A new station on South Church Avenue was replacing the old building. But, before total demolition began, the firemen used their Firebird 150 crane for one last training session. See more photos of the old fire station in Tales from the Morgue at go.azstarnet.com/morguetales.
Coming Up: The Tucson Fire Department is rebuilding a "Fire Central" in Downtown; read all about the new project in Sunday's Arizona Daily Star.
