A 1-year-old boy nearly drowned in a bathtub in his family's Southwest Side house Friday afternoon, authorities said.
The Drexel Heights Fire District received the report at 4:13 p.m. of the unresponsive child inside a house in the 7500 block of South Carlisle Avenue and arrived within six minutes, said Battalion Chief Mario Acosta.
The child was found in the bathroom by his mother and wasn't breathing when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters began CPR and within a minute had the boy loaded into the ambulance and on the way to University Medical Center, with emergency lights and sirens activated.
The boy, who just turned 1 this month, was revived and began breathing on his own, said Tracy Koslowski, a Drexel Heights Fire District spokeswoman.
His condition at UMC was not immediately known.
