Tucson police have arrested a man suspected in last week's stabbing at a Midtown bus stop.

Gregory Louis Mirenda, 50, was identified through tips after a surveillance image taken from inside a Sun Tran bus shortly before the assault, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson PoliceDepartment spokesman.

Mirenda was taken into custody without incident about 8:30 a.m. Thursday. He is charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury.

The stabbing took place about 1:15 p.m. July 17 at the bus stop at East Grant and North Palo Verde roads.

Mirenda got off the bus at the same stop as the victim after ex-changing words on the bus, and Mirenda stabbed the other man in his right abdomen, police said.
