Tucson police are investigating the death of a 57-year-old woman as a homicide, an official said Thursday.
The woman's body was found Wednesday around 10:45 p.m. by two children looking for a place to skateboard, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a police spokesman.
They went into a culvert under South Alvernon Way between East Golf Links Road and East 29th Street when they saw what they believed to be a body, he said. They did not approach it and contacted police.
Officers found that the woman suffered trauma, Robinson said. An autopsy will be conducted. It appears the slaying occurred where her body was found and likely happened shortly before she was discovered, Robinson said.
No arrests have been made. The woman's name has not been released. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
