Tucson police have arrested one man on suspicion of robbing an East Side bank on Tuesday and were questioning another man in a second, unrelated bank robbery.
The first robbery occurred at 11:16 a.m. at the Wells Fargo branch at 7171 E. Tanque Verde Road. The robber entered the bank and demanded money from a teller, without showing or implying that he was armed. The man ran from the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a police spokesman.
Robbery detectives identified the man as Timothy Arnold Riley, 40, and arrested him in the 5500 block of East Speedway.
Riley was booked into the Pima County jail on one count of robbery.
The second robbery was reported at 12:45 p.m., when police received notice of a holdup alarm from the Tucson Federal Credit Union branch at 8145 E. 22nd St.
The robber was seeking information about a loan and began acting suspiciously, Pacheco said. He then demanded money from a teller, again without displaying or implying he had a weapon, and escaped with an undisclosed amount.
The robber was described as being 17 to 23 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches, and weighing between 130 and 150 pounds. He was wearing glasses, a Washington Nationals baseball cap, a black shirt and tan shorts.
Tucson police said late Tuesday they were questioning a man in connection with that robbery; no arrest had been made. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
