Clever copywriter: Edit event descriptions, newsletters and a Web site. Review submissions for spelling and grammar; add spicy headlines and catchy phrases. Work is completed at home, with periodic meetings in central locations.
Introduce students to the wonder of flight: Docents at a space museum must enjoy working with youths, master tour concepts during training and give tours tailored to a requested age or interest. A background in aviation, space or science is helpful.
Amazing arid plants: Pass on your passion for water-efficient landscapes. Help with greenhouse operations at a desert park, teach visitors about planning and maintaining a water-efficient landscape, and help them select xeriscape plants.
Disability issues: Are you or a loved one living with a disability, or are you interested in disability culture? Serve as a board member for a local agency advocating for independence for the disabled. Candidates with expertise in accounting, marketing and fundraising, or general interest, are sought.
Spin a magical web: Develop a professional and creative Web site that tells the story of a philanthropic agency. A bright, compelling site motivates volunteers to participate in programs for the needy.
Board members: The Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona aims to inspire and mobilize people to take action and solve community problems. New members are needed for the center's board of directors. Candidates must be experienced in board duties and willing to commit their time, talent and resources. Call 881-3300.
Children's special advocate: Offer friendship and security to an abused or neglected child. After visiting the child and people influential to the child, reports are made to the court about the best interests of the child. A two-year commitment is required.
Hospital host: The friendly faces of volunteers ease the stress while family members and friends wait for loved ones in surgery or critical care. Morning to evening shifts at a West Side hospital.
