When and Where: Oct. 16, 2007, in the 2200 block of West Dakota Street.
The Victim: Analissa Monares-Leon, 6.
Investigators: Detective Theresa Hess, with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Summary: Analissa was killed just before 5 a.m. on a Tuesday morning when a bullet blasted a hole in the front door of her home and struck her as she lay sleeping on the sofa, officials said.
Investigators don't know why the shooter fired into the house, but the placement of several bullet holes clustered around the doorknob of the house led them to the conclusion that the shooting wasn't random.
Two men, both under 25 and one wearing a baseball-type cap, were seen around the house near South Mission and West Irvington roads just after the shooting, but the Sheriff's Department never released information about what involvement they may have had in the shooting.
When the shots rang out in the early morning, Lizelda Monares, 27, Analissa's mother, checked on her children, and she found her daughter had been struck by one of the rounds.
Two other children in the house were uninjured.
Analissa was taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
A Sheriff's Department spokesman, Sgt. James Ogden, said after the shooting that the case depended on someone who knew what happened to come forward with information.
Still, homicide detectives have yet to solve the case, said Deputy Dawn Hanke, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.
The Latest Information: There is no new suspect information or leads in this case.
How You Can Help: Anyone with information about Analissa's death should call 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.
