School bus rear-ended; kids are OK

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 05.14.2008
A. Jordan sobs with relief as she clings to her son, Max Cardadeiro, 7, after learning that he and the other young children were all right after a car rear-ended their school bus and the car briefly caught fire Tuesday. The 5- to 8-year-old children on the bus were from Johnson Primary School. The accident was reported around 3:30 p.m. on Valencia Road near Camino de Oeste. None of the children was seriously injured, but the driver of the car was hurt and was taken to a hospital. The students were checked out by Drexel Heights firefighters and paramedics, then released to their parents. Those who were not picked up by their parents were picked up by another bus that was sent by the Tucson Unified School District.
