Authorities have released the name of a 62-year-old homeless man who was beaten to death late last month.
Steven Paul Gedatus was likely killed because he was homeless, a Pima County Sheriff's Department official said shortly after his death.
Two brothers have been arrested in connection with the slaying. They are Adam Scott King, 29, and Scott Allen King, 18, of Tucson.
Both remained in jail Tuesday on second-degree-murder charges.
Gedatus was found dead three days after he was assaulted while sitting underneath the overpass at Interstate 10 and South Craycroft Road, the Sheriff's Department said.
At the time of the assault, Gedatus was sitting with a few others when they were confronted by four people who were not homeless, said Sgt. Jesus Lopez, head of the Sheriff's Department homicide unit.
Two of the four people assaulted Gedatus, but he did not have any obvious signs of injury, Lopez said.
A witness to the attack flagged down a deputy, who investigated the incident and contacted the attackers, but Gedatus refused to press charges, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Three days later, deputies responded to a call about a dead person in the same area. Deputies found no signs of trauma. However, an autopsy revealed that Gedatus died of blunt-force trauma.
