A Tucson businessman was killed in his house in Rita Ranch early Sunday morning after three to four males dressed in dark clothing forced their way into his house and shot him.
Ricardo Campos, 47, the owner of Campos Gold and Gems, died at the scene, said Officer Chuck Rydzak, a Police Department spokesman.
Campos was with his wife and his three grandchildren at his house in the 9900 block of East Placita de las Palmeritas, but all the others were unhurt, Rydzak said.
The three to four unknown males appear to have broken in about 1:15 a.m., shot him and left without harming the others in the house, he said.
"We know for sure it's not a random act," Rydzak said, adding he couldn't say why. "We're still working on a motive."
Several Internet business listings for Campos Gold and Gems list an address in the 9900 block of East Placita de las Palmeritas.
Records from the Pima County Assessor's Office list the same address as Campos' home address — meaning he was likely running his gold and gems business out of his home in the primarily residential area of Rita Ranch on the Southeast Side.
Reports said he sold jewelry at swap meets.
The suspects fled the scene in a 1990s small, import sports-utility vehicle that is light in color, Rydzak said.
The vehicle had a broken rear window wrapped in clear plastic, and police are looking for anyone with information on this vehicle.
Anyone with information on the vehicle or the suspects is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
