The Tucson Rodeo Parade is a decades-old tradition that draws crowds of spectators to watch the oldest non-mechanized parade during a week of national rodeo competition.
If you're planning to be in the area to see the parade, there's a lot to keep in mind, from street closures to alternative transportation means.
Street closures
This year's Tucson Rodeo Parade will mean a series of street closures near the Tucson Rodeo Grounds Thursday so the non-motorized parade and throngs of spectators can assemble.
Drivers should be ready for a large number of street closures on the South Side.
The parade starts at South Park Avenue and East Ajo Way, travels south on Park, west on East Irvington Road and north on South Sixth Avenue to the Tucson Rodeo Grounds.
To accommodate the route, and the staging areas needed for performers and horses, all of the streets bordered by Ajo, Park, Irvington and Sixth Avenue will be closed from 7 a.m. until about 12:30 p.m. The closures include the streets in the parade route.
The parade begins at 9 a.m.
Take a shuttle
To avoid a parking hassle, Sun Tran is offering shuttles from Park Place and Tucson Mall to the parade area.
The shuttles are $1 for full round-trip fare; 50 cents for round-trip fare for seniors, people with disabilities, and people with ADA or Medicare cards; and free for children 5 years and younger.
The shuttles pick up from 7 to 9 a.m. at the southeast corner of the Park Place mall, just west of LA Fitness. At Tucson Mall, shuttles will board east of the American Home Furnishings store.
Passengers will be dropped off on South Sixth Avenue just south of Irvington Road, near the Tucson Rodeo Grounds.
The buses will return to the malls after the parade.

Check bus routes
Because of the associated street closures, several bus routes will be detoured.
From 6:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. routes 2, 6, 8, 11, 26, 29, 50 and 186 will be detoured and likely will also be delayed.
Alternate bus stop locations will be posted at the normal bus stops affected by the detours.
For more detailed information, passengers can call Sun Tran's customer service line at 792-9222.
