Convicted on drug charge, probationer then vanished
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 12.17.2007
When: Dec. 28, 2003.
The Fugitive: Byron Eugene Mims, 19.
Investigator: Ruben Rosales of the Pima County Adult Probation Officers Warrants Unit.
Summary: Mims was in a vehicle stopped by a Pima County Sheriff's deputy on Dec. 28, 2003, Rosales said. The driver of the car got out and told the deputy he didn't have drugs or firearms on him. He did say he had a lot of money and when he pulled out a wad of cash, a bag with crack cocaine dropped to the ground.
At that point, Mims and the driver ran away. Mims was found later, and when deputies searched the car, they found two bags with marijuana and two with crack cocaine, as well as four handguns, one of which had been stolen in a burglary.
On April 30, 2004, Mims was found guilty of attempted possession of a narcotic drug for sale and placed on intensive probation supervision for five years, Rosales said.
He failed to follow his probation requirements in August and on Sept. 8, he changed his address without his probation officer's approval, Rosales said.
He hasn't been seen since. He is described as 5-10, weighing 185 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
The Latest Information: Mims is a gang member and is considered armed and dangerous, Rosales said.
He is also wanted for questioning in connection with another violent crime, but Rosales couldn't go into details about that case because the investigation is ongoing.
How You Can Help: Contact Rosales at 740-4966 or call 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.
