A woman who was abducted at gunpoint last week along with her boyfriend has been found after her captors reportedly released her in Mexico, police said Sunday.
Sarai Borquez, 26, was unharmed, but police are still working to develop information on the suspects, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Borquez was released Sunday in Nogales, Sonora, where she contacted relatives, Robinson said. Those family members contacted relatives in the United States and they, in turn, notified TPD, Robinson said.
Tucson police detectives, along with Borquez's family, traveled to Nogales, Ariz., where they were to meet with Borquez Sunday evening.
The release comes nearly one week after Borquez and her 33-year-old boyfriend were accosted by several armed men as they left a home in the 6800 block of South Martin Lane, Robinson said. The suspects also stole the couple's vehicles.
Borquez and her boyfriend said they were held at several locations around Tucson, but the boyfriend, who was seriously injured, managed to escape the following day when he was left alone, Robinson said. He contacted police and an investigation began.
On Sunday, Douglas police found Borquez's Chevrolet Silverado in a Wal-Mart parking lot, Robinson said. Her boyfriend's vehicle, a green 1999 Ford Expedition with Arizona plate 258-SGH, is still missing.
Police are also working to find a car that the suspects were seen in — a tan 2002 Buick with Arizona license plate 621-YTY.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.
