The Fugitive: Filiberto Guerrero Castillo.
When and Where: Aug. 1, 2004, in Three Points.
Investigators: Deputy U.S. Marshal L. Pacheco of the U.S. Marshal's Service.
Summary: In 1979, Castillo was arrested in connection with the slaying of an undercover narcotics officer in Tucson. Nearly three decades later, Castillo has served his time for that crime but is now wanted for violating terms of his release after he was found guilty of smuggling illegal entrants from Mexico.
On Aug. 1, 2004, Castillo was pulled over by the Border Patrol on Arizona 86 in Three Points, according to Deputy U.S. Marshal Tom Twohey.
Inside the white 1991 Nissan Maxima, the agent found three people covered with a blanket. There were also three more people in the trunk, Twohey said.
Castillo was taken into custody and sentenced to more than two years in prison, to be followed by two years of supervised release.
The Latest Information: On Dec. 25, 2006, Castillo left his halfway house and did not return, Twohey said. He also failed to report to his probation officer.
Since then, authorities have been looking for Castillo, who is said to have a drug and alcohol problem.
Castillo was born and raised in Tucson and does have family here, Twohey said. His relatives have told authorities that they have not seen Castillo and they believe he may be living on the streets.
"According to family members, he prefers a homeless lifestyle and sometimes stays under bridges or at homeless camps," Twohey said. "They did mention that he might be residing in the area of 22nd and Aviation under the bridge."
Castillo has a history of violence, having been arrested on a number of charges including aggravated assault, drug charges and kidnapping, Twohey said.
He was connected to the death of an undercover Department of Public Safety officer in 1979 because he and another man set up a meeting between the officer and the killer.
The killer was supposed to sell cocaine to the undercover officer but instead the deal turned into a deadly rip-off.
In the end, Castillo would be convicted of conspiracy to sell a narcotic drug.
"We are concerned because Castillo has committed several crimes as a means of getting drugs and alcohol out of desperation to feed his habit," Twohey said. "These kind of people are unpredictable."
Castillo is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighs 196 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. He also has tattoos of Yosemite Sam on his left arm, the Aztec symbol on his left shoulder, a peacock on the right arm, a dragon on the right shoulder and a cowgirl on his back.
