A 25-year-old Tucson man was arrested and another man is being sought in connection with sexually motivated crimes that occurred in the UA area, an official said Thursday.
Connor M. Lohmann was booked into the Pima County jail Oct. 24 on suspicion of two counts of sexual abuse, two counts of kidnapping and one count of burglary, according to a Tucson Police Department press release.
He has since been released from jail on bond.
One of the incidents that led to Lohmann's arrest occurred about 1:30 a.m. March 3 when a woman was walking from her car to an apartment in the 1400 block of North Park Avenue, according to Sgt. Decio Hopffer, a Tucson police spokesman. A man approached the woman and fondled her breasts.
The woman recognized the man as someone who had previously exposed himself to her, Hopffer said.
Then on Oct. 17, a woman was in the 1700 block of North Park Avenue unlocking her bicycle from a bike rack when a man approached, exposed himself and forced the woman to touch his genitals, Hopffer said.
Police are looking for a second suspect involved in a string of five sexually motivated crimes that occurred in an area north of the University of Arizona since November 2004, Hopffer said. Those cases were linked through forensic evidence left at the scene.
Officers had saturated the area looking for the man involved in the other crimes, Hopffer said. During that time Lohmann was pulled over for a traffic violation.
They were then able to link Lohmann to the March and October crimes, Hopffer said.
The department declined to comment on the types of crimes committed in the still-unsolved case, saying only that a sexually motivated crime could include obscene phone calls, pictures or indecent exposure.
Information on whether any of the victims was injured, if the man was armed, how and where he approached his victims and if any were UA students was not released to maintain the integrity of the investigation, police said.
One of the victims was able to assist detectives in completing a computer-generated sketch of the man, who is still being sought. He is described as being 22 to 27 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 150 pounds.
He has black hair that is cut short and has a thin build. The man also has glasses, a mustache and goatee.
According to online court records, Lohmann has been convicted of trespassing and theft. He has been arrested on a number of other charges as well.
Lohmann's attorney, Natasha Wrae, said Lohmann's arrest is a case of mistaken identity as police are looking for other suspects in the area.
She said he has no knowledge of any crimes. "He's very upset because he's being accused of crimes he didn't commit," she said.
Anyone with information about any sexually motivated crimes should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
