The fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy at his East Side home has been classified as a death from unknown causes case as police work to determine what happened.
The Tucson Police Department declined to release the teen's name Thursday citing the fact that he is a juvenile. However, they had notified the boy's family of his death and court documents filed in Pima County Superior Court identify the victim as Chris McIntyre.
Authorities went to McIntyre's home in the 6600 block of East 42nd Street, near East Golf Links and South Wilmot roads, shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday after someone inside the residence called to report a shooting.
An adult was home at the time, as well as Chris' 14-year-old brother.
A search-warrant affidavit filed by the police indicates that blood and urine samples were taken from Chris' brother.
DNA samples were also taken from Chris' hands.
At the home, officers seized a Bauer .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol, an empty box of ammunition, a marijuana pipe with residue, a beer bottle, pliers with blood and a bloody iPod, the document states.
There were also a number of bullets in the bedroom where Chris was found, the search warrant said.
"We are still waiting for forensics to come back and we have to corroborate that with the physical evidence at the scene and witness statements to determine what happened," said Officer Frank Amado, a police spokesman.
