A Fort Huachuca soldier, one of two people who died in a three-car collision on Saturday, has been identified as 18-year-old Joshua P. Farr by the Tucson Police Department.
Farr and his passenger, Ashley M. Bernal, 20, were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, on East Grant Road near North Sparkman Boulevard, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a police spokesman.
The collision happened at about 2:40 a.m. as Farr was racing his red 2001 Pontiac Firebird eastbound on Grant against a dark-colored sedan, Robinson said.
The sedan passed Farr's Firebird in the two-way left-hand turn lane, then cut in front of Farr, he said.
Traveling about 100 mph, Farr then lost control of his car and spun into the westbound lanes on Grant before being hit on the driver's side by a 1992 Acura Integra, Robinson said.
The car then spun a second time and was hit on the passenger side by a 2003 Ford Taurus, he said.
The 29-year-old driver and 30-year-old passenger in the Integra, as well as the 55-year-old driver of the Taurus, suffered minor injuries, Robinson said.
The sedan continued east on Grant after the collision, Robinson said.
Police are looking for the sedan and are trying to identify the driver, he said.
Anyone with information on the collision, the dark-colored sedan or its driver is asked to call 911, the police Traffic Enforcement Section at 791-4440 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.
