Pima County voters can now sign up to automatically receive an early ballot in every election.
The one-time sign-up means voters don't need to request an early ballot for each election.
The move by the County Recorder's Office is part of a new state law. Maricopa County, which instituted its database before the Feb. 5 presidential-preference election, saw significantly higher early voting numbers than Pima as a result. Eventually, Pima County was inundated with early ballot requests.
Mailings of request forms are going out now to the approximately 475,000 registered voters in Pima County, said Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez.
"We're slowly blanketing the county," she said.
In addition, the office is "testing" the addresses of voters. If a mailer is sent to someone who no longer lives at an address, the office is asking the resident to send it back saying, "moved."
Not everyone will receive a request form immediately. Rodriguez said the request forms are going out in phases.
If you do not receive a permanent early voting request form by April 18 and are registered to vote, call 740-4330.
In recent elections, about half of voters have used early ballots.
