Arizona Wildcats senior safety Cam Nelson was named the Pac-10 defensive player of the week after he finished with two sacks, two forced fumbles and six tackles, all solo, in the Cats’ 27-13 victory over UCLA on Saturday. He also broke up a pass.
The Wildcats (5-2, 3-1 Pac-10) received their first national ranking since 2000 on Sunday, entering the Associated Press Top 25 at No. 23 and the USA Today Poll at No. 24.
Arizona also climbed two spots to No. 20 in the Bowl Championship Series standings and has a bye week this week before facing Washington State on Nov. 7 at Arizona Stadium.
