US Senate passes Udall measure

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 10.23.2009
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate has approved legislation that recognizes former Interior Secretary Stewart Udall for his contributions as secretary and for advancing the work of the Morris K. Udall Foundation.
The measure, introduced by New Mexico Democrat Sen. Jeff Bingaman, now heads to the White House for signature.
Bingaman says New Mexicans know the important role Stewart Udall has played to protect the environment and public land.
Udall, a former Arizona Congressma, lives in Santa Fe and will turn 90 in the coming year.
The measure would provide additional resources for the foundation to award more scholarships to students interested in environmental and Native American issues. It would also rename the organization the Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation.
