Poetry Slam at Bentley’ tonight
Spoken-word competitors will step to the mic at 7 p.m. tonight for Ocotillo Poetry Slam’s “The Coronation Slam.”
Featuring J.W. Baz and hosted by reigning slam queen Maggie Christy, the all-ages word-slinging will take place at Bentley’s House of Coffee and Tea, 1730 E. Speedway.
Sign-up is at 6:30 p.m. A donation of $5 or more will be appreciated.
Reggae veteran Banton to perform tonight
Pato Banton, a longtime reggae singer and toaster, will perform tonight as part of a concert put on by the 12 Tribes Reggae Shop, 345 N. Fifth Ave.
Known for his positive outlook, audience interaction and work with UB40 of "Red Red Wine" fame, Banton has been a regular on the reggae scene since the early '80s in his native England.
Mystic Roots also will perform, as will the UpRoots Reggae Band and Spirit Familia. The show gets under way at 8 p.m.; tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. 620-1810.
