Tucson woman set herself ablaze after jail release

A woman who was flown to a Phoenix-area hospital after sustaining severe burns doused herself with gasoline and lit herself on fire, an official said Monday.
It is not clear why the woman — who had just been released from jail — lit herself on fire, said Deputy Dawn Barkman, a Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman.
On Saturday night, the Sheriff’s Department had been called to the mobile home near East Benson Highway and East Valencia Road for a domestic dispute, Barkman said.
The woman was taken to jail on an unrelated warrant but was released Sunday, she said.
After she arrived home, she doused herself with gasoline and lit herself on fire. Her boyfriend just arrived home as the incident unfolded and he too was injured as he tried to put her out, Barkman said.
The woman suffered third-degree burns and was flown to the Arizona Burn Center at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. The boyfriend was treated for his injuries locally.
Two neighbors also were injured while helping the couple out of their home and working to put out the fire before firefighters arrived. Both suffered smoke inhalation.
The trailer was completely destroyed, fire officials said.
