PHOENIX — Two Arizona wilderness areas are being searched for three missing people.
David Bremson with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Mountain Rescue team says a young man and woman are overdue after going hiking Sunday in the Superstition Mountains near Apache Junction.
He says searchers began looking for the couple, ages 19 and 20, about 10 p.m. Sunday.
The area received rain overnight.
The Mountain Rescue team also is helping the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office search the Forest Lakes area, northeast of Payson, for 51-year-old Mark Russell Irby, who was last seen about 10 a.m. Friday when he told his wife he was going for a short ride on his ATV. Authorities say Irby was not dressed for extreme weather.
Bremson says Forest Lakes received a foot of new snow Sunday.
