Fire causes $300K damage at Tucson's closed Ghost Ranch Lodge

Arizona Daily Star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 11.28.2008
A fire at the historic Ghost Ranch Lodge on West Miracle Mile caused about $300,000 on Friday afternoon.
The blaze heavily damaged one building that has three units and partially damaged another building.
The lodge, which was closed about three years ago, is fenced off and vacant. It was built in the early 1940s by philanthropists and cattle ranchers Arthur Pack and his wife, Phoebe.
It was known for its red-roof tile, manicured lawns, cactus garden and cow-skull sign, which was a gift from artist Georgia O'Keefe.
The closed inn was supposed to be renovated into low-cost housing for the elderly, but the project never happened. The property was sold in 2007 to a Mesa-based developer.
The cause of the blaze has not been determined, Tucson fire officials said at the scene. They estimated the damage at $300,000.
