There's no such thing as a free tank of gas, says the Better Business Bureau of Southern Arizona.
Rewards Printing of Encino, Calif., is sending out mailings telling consumers in Tucson and across the country they've won a $300 gas giveaway, but the BBB says it's a scam.
The company instructs "winners" to send a money order for $29.95 along with their name and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to claim their $300 gift card as part of the "Great Gas Giveaway."
The bureau said it was made aware of scheme by Sunoco, which is one of many major gas chains mentioned on the card. Sunoco is not participating in the giveaway and have circulated an internal memo to all Sunoco locations that this is a scam and they are not honoring the cards.
Both the mailing and the Web site use an old version of the BBB logo, and Rewards Printing falsely claims to be a member of the BBB, the bureau said.
Rewards Printing has an "F" rating with Los Angeles BBB, which said the company has failed to respond to complaints or inquiries by the BBB, failed to comply with licensing requirements and has used grossly misleading advertising.
The BBB advises area consumers who receive the offer to avoid sending money and instead contact the BBB at 888-5353 in Tucson or 520-459-2880 in Cochise County.
