About 80 custodial staff members are performing a floor-to-ceiling cleaning of Desert View High School after a third case of a dangerous staph infection was confirmed there.
The first case of MRSA — methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus — was confirmed at the school, 4101 E. Valencia Road, at the end of September. The second, the first week of October. The latest was confirmed Tuesday.
All three cases appear unrelated, said district spokeswoman Misti Nowak, who said a letter went home to parents on Thursday.
The school typically has eight to 10 custodial workers, but the district pulled staff from all but two of the other schools to help in the effort, she said.
Students are off today anyway because it’s a grading day in the district. Teachers and other staff were sent to Sunnyside High School for the day.
Teachers are being provided with their own set of disinfectant sprays, Nowak said, and staff has met with Pima County Health Department officials to ensure proper prevention measures are in place.
