One man has been taken into custody after fleeing from a Border Patrol agent and being shot at, officials said Thursday morning.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on Interstate 10 near Willcox when an agent was attempting to stop a vehicle, according to Carol Capas, a Cochise County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman. The person in the vehicle got out and ran away, Capas said.
The suspect ran towards the high school, prompting a lock down of area schools, she said. The schools remained locked down until shortly after the man was apprehended about 11:15 a.m.
At some point during the incident, the agent fired at least one shot, according to Rob Daniels, a Border Patrol spokesman.
It is unclear if the suspect returned fire. No injuries were reported.
No further information was immediately available.
