Tucson hospital locked down after South Side shooting

Two men suffered non life-threatening injuries Monday night after they were both shot on the South Side, police said.
The 19-year-olds were outside near South Sixth Avenue and East Michigan Drive — north of Irvington Road — when four men approached them, according to Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
One of the four men said something about a barrio name and then produced a small caliber handgun, which was used to shoot one of the men once and the other twice, Robinson said.
The two victims made their way to one of their homes where they told one of their fathers that they had been shot, he said.
The father drove the two young men to St. Mary’s Hospital and called 911 as he made his way there, Robinson said.
Upon arrival, the hospital was put on lockdown for a short period of time.
It is standard practice for safety reasons to lock down the facility in such occurrences, according to Fran Luchsinger, a hospital spokeswoman.
The gang tactical unit is looking into the incident because of the statement made, although it does not appear that either of the victims have gang ties, Robinson said.
