Weekend beer festival at Hi Corbett
Saturday is the Great Tucson Beer Festival, which will serve nearly 200 beers at Hi Corbett Field. There also will be food from 28 vendors that include Agave, Bluepoint Kitchen and Bar, Elle Wine Country Restaurant, Trident Bar and Grill, Firkin and Friar, and Amrutha Cuisine of India.
More than 4,000 people attended last year’s festival, which benefits Sun Sounds of Arizona.
The 22nd Annual Great Tucson Beer Festival is from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday.
Regular tickets cost $40, $50 at gate; VIP tickets cost $80, $90 at gate.
Information is at www.azbeer.com.
Tracy Shedd celebrates new album tonight
Local musician Tracy Shedd will celebrate the release of her fourth album, “Cigarettes and Smoke Machines,” tonight on the patio at Club Congress.
Shedd wrote all the songs on “Cigarettes” and recorded it at Wavelab Studio here in town last year. With Shedd at the wheel, it’s a breezy, melodic and often melancholy midnight drive.
The singer/songwriter, who came to Tucson in 2006 from Florida, has put out three albums since 2001 on Washington, D.C.-based Teen Beat Records.
The free celebration will include a DJ set from Shedd starting around 8. After she’s done spinning, she’ll step to the mic to perform.
Devil Music Ensemble performing at Loft Sunday with 1929 silent film
It took a year of back-and-forth negotiating to bring the 1929 Chinese silent film “Red Heroine” out of its Beijing vault and into American theaters. Credit the Devil Music Ensemble, a Boston-based group of well-schooled musicians who compose music for silent films and perform the music live in theaters.
Devil Music Ensemble will perform at the Loft Cinema at 8 p.m. Sunday while the martial-arts movie is shown. Prior to this tour, “Red Heroine” had been screened only once in the United States (at a 2003 kung-fu festival at UCLA).
DME, right, began as a rock group in 1999 before morphing into an all-encompassing experiment that blends pop and classical. Tickets are $10.
Amaize-ing: Maze opens on Saturday
Now there’s yet another reason to make the drive to Apple Annie’s Produce & Pumpkins in Willcox this fall. The farm’s first corn maze — an intricate replica of the new state quarter — opens Saturday, along with the Fall Pumpkin Celebration.
The maze, which will be open seven days a week through Halloween, takes most people at least an hour to navigate.
