The Department of Public Safety has identified the two victims from Friday’s three-vehicle fatal accident on Interstate 10 Southeast of Tucson.
Richard Spettigue, 56, of Casa Grande, and Brandon Spettigue, 22, of Surprise, were dead at the scene 10 miles west of Benson about 5 p.m., according to the DPS.
The pair were riding in a black, four-door 2007 Acura driven by Sally M. Spettigue, 41, of Surprise. She was admitted to University Medical Center and was listed in stable condition, said a hospital spokeswoman.
Also injured were San Manuel High School students and their van’s driver, Elizabeth Zazueta, 47. She was listed in critical condition Saturday at UMC, said the hospital spokeswoman.
And the driver of the third vehicle, Richard Liller, 45, of Hot Springs, Colo., was transported to a local hospital, treated and released, said DPS. Liller’s unidentified passenger was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries.
According to DPS, the white Dodge van, driven by Zazueta, swerved to avoid a stray dog on eastbound I-10. The vehicle rolled in the median. The Acura slowed down and was rear-ended by the tractor trailer driven by Liller.
Also in the van were Tyler Cline, 16, who was listed in critical condition at UMC. Other injured students identified by DPS were Mitchell Zazueta, 16, Halen Sanchez, 26, Armina Sharp, 17, and Sharron Sierra, 17.
An additional eight passengers in the van were not identified. San Manuel school officials declined to comment Saturday.
