2nd Congressional District
Democrat John Thrasher, 66, of Phoenix, an educator, band conductor and musical director, will face off Nov. 4 against three-term incumbent Republican Rep. Trent Franks, 51, of Glendale, in the 2nd Congressional District, which sprawls from northwestern Arizona to Phoenix’s western suburbs, and where Republicans have a 43 to 29 percent voter registration advantage.
3rd Congressional District
Phoenix attorney Bob Lord, 51, a Democrat active in civic affairs and also a disciplinary hearing officer for the Arizona Supreme Court, on Nov. 4 will face Phoenix Republican Rep. John Shadegg, 48, seeking his eighth term from the 3rd Congressional District in Phoenix’s northern suburbs, where the GOP holds a 44 to 29.5 percent edge.
4th Congressional District
Republican Don Karg, 49, is making his fourth bid in the heavily Democratic 4th Congressional District to unseat 65-year-old Rep. Ed Pastor on Nov. 4, who is running for his 10th term. Pastor enjoys a 49 to 21 percent Democratic advantage in voter registrations.
The district takes in central Phoenix, most of Glendale and a few other close-in suburbs.
Karg, who also ran for Congress in 1992 in California, defeated write-in candidate Richard Grayson of Apache Junction for the Republican nomination in Tuesday’s primary.
6th Congressional District
Rebecca Schneider, 44, of Mesa, a supervisor for Arizona State University’s libraries, defeated Chris Gramazio, 38, of Queen Creek, account manager for an entertainment trucking company, in Tuesday’s primary to win the Democratic nomination in the 6th Congressional District.
The district takes in the eastern suburbs of Phoenix in Maricopa and Pinal counties, and Schneider on Nov. 4 takes on four-term incumbent Rep. Jeff Flake of Mesa, who did not face an opponent in the Republican primary.
Flake, 45, was favored to win a fifth term with registered Republicans outnumbering Democrats in the district by a 46.5 to 25 percent margin.
