One-eyed man sought in Tucson bus-stop stabbing arrested

Arizona Daily Star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 07.24.2008
Tucson police have arrested a man sought in connection with a Midtown bus-stop stabbing last week.
Gregory Louis Mirenda, 50, was arrested without incident Thursday morning at the Southern Arizona Veterans Hospital. He has been charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated assault with serious injury, according to a TPD Press release.
The stabbing occurred at the bus stop at East Grant and North Palo Verde roads about 1:15 p.m. July 17. The assailant stabbed the victim after they both got off a bus, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco. The victim suffered a serious but non-life-threatening stab wound to his right abdomen.
Police initially released bus-surveillance images of a slender man wearing a white T-shirt, but said Wednesday that man is no longer the focus of the investigation.
They released a second photograph Wednesday of a one-eyed man about 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing about 220 pounds, with sandy brown and gray hair.
Mirenda was identified as the man in the photograph by people who saw the media reports.
