Tucson man charged with assault on police officer

Arizona Daily Star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 07.22.2008
A 32-year-old Tucson man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault on a police officer late Monday after dragging an officer in an attempt to flee a traffic stop, police said.
About 10:30 p.m., an officer stopped a 1994 Geo Prism near South Columbus Boulevard and East Eastland Street and discovered that the driver, Dangelo D. Walker, did not have a driver’s license, vehicle registration or proof of insurance, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Walker was evasive and answered questions aggressively, Pacheco said. Walker began reaching for something beneath the driver’s seat and the officer, concerned Walker might be reaching for a weapon, ordered him to show his hands.
At that point, the officer reached inside the vehicle to grab Walker, who put the car in gear and started driving, dragging the officer for a short distance, Pacheco sad.
The officer followed Walker to the area of East 16th Street and South Craycroft Road, where the Geo ran a stop sign and hit a 2003 Honda Accord.
Walker was apprehended and has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, endangerment and unlawful flight. Officer found a stolen Glock .40 caliber handgun inside the Geo, Pacheco said.
The officer, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.
