A Tucson man was sentenced to four years in prison Monday for negligent homicide in the July 2007 death of another man.
Estephen Gabriel Nava, 32, was sentenced by Judge Deborah Bernini of Pima County Superior Court as part of plea agreement that stipulated the sentence.
Gregory A. Givens, 45, was stabbed to death on July 19 near East Kleindale Road and North Edith Boulevard, near North Country Club Road, according to courtroom accounts.
Givens and Elisa Luna, who were romantically involved, got into a fight shortly before midnight July 19.Luna, 49, stabbed Givens once causing a superficial wound, but when she left Givens followed her.
Authorities said over the course of the next few minutes, Luna’s son, Robert, fought with Givens, as did Nava and Fidel John Diaz Jr., 26.
Nava restrained Givens’ arm and tried to hit him at the same time that Diaz fatally stabbed Givens, according to court testimony.
Diaz pleaded guilty to manslaughter and will be sentenced to between seven and 21 years in prison July 21.
Elisa Luna pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault and is facing between two and 8.75 years in prison when sentenced July 1.
Robert Luna has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and will be sentenced July 14.
