UA softball will travel to NY for College World Series

To try to win their third-straight Women's College World Series, the Arizona Wildcats will have to take the road less traveled. Tonight, the UA was selected to open NCAA Tournament regional play in Hempstead, N.Y.
The Wildcats (36-16), seeded No. 7 overall, play in a pod that includes Canisius (38-12), Long Island University (34-15) and Hofstra (43-11). The UA plays its first game Friday against Canisius.
Tonight's announcement is a rarity for probably the most accomplished program in the sport — the UA had hosted 10 of the past 11 regional rounds.
Pac-10 champion Arizona State will host a regional against Stony Brook, Mississippi State and Hawaii.
